Cathal joined Dublin City University Language Services as Chief Executive in 2007. With a background in management from a number of different industries, Cathal brings a wealth of experience to the DCU Language Services team. Cathal’s primary responsibility is to ensure the smooth running DCU Language School and to develop new partnerships with universities and groups from around the world.
Originally from Belgium, Ciska has been studying and working in Ireland for seven years. She holds degrees from the KULeuven and Trinity College Dublin, speaks five languages and is planning to undertake further teacher training in the near future. Since joining DCU LS in the summer of 2015, she has taught general English classes at different levels, IELTS classes and academic English classes. She is also regularly involved in the conversation support class and occasionally in other social activities. Her classes are student-centred and she has a particular interest in pronunciation. In her free time, she enjoys reading and cooking.
Thiago works as Marketing Executive at DCU Language Services and has over 7 years of experience in marketing from a number of different industries. He holds a Business Degree and a Masters Degree in Marketing. Thiago is from Brazil and has been living in Dublin for almost 2 years and brings to the team his experience as English student in Dublin. His interests outside of work include travel and sports.
Shima works as Student Welfare Officer at DCU Language Services. She is the first person you will meet when you arrive at DCU and during your studies here. She is always available to help with student questions and to provide advice. Shima is from Japan and has been living in Ireland for more than ten years. She loves meeting people from different countries and learning about their culture (especially the food)! She is also a big fun of Gaelic Football/Hurling (traditional Irish sports). She supports the Dublin team and is keen to introduce these unique sports to you while you are studying English at DCU.
Niall is Sales Manager at DCU Language Services. His role is to facilitate incoming students to English courses at DCU, and helps students from around the world to come to DCU. Having studied Law at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, Niall has also completed a Masters in Business Management at UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. Outside of work Niall enjoys walking his dogs, sailing, and playing rugby for his local team.
Alan is a Dublin native and hold a B.A. in English and Sociology from UCD. Alan has taught in DCU Language Services for 11 years and has prior experience teaching in Asia. During his time in DCU he has been involved with many of our courses including General English and Exam Preparation classes. His teaching philosophy is that authentic material and student focused communication tasks are the most effective way of improving ones language ability. Outside of work he loves spending time with his two young children and is a keen musician who can be found playing in various corners of the city.
Niamh is Head of Business Development and leads the busy Sales and Marketing team. Niamh has a Masters in Work and Organisational Psychology from DCU, so is well placed to promote the quality programmes that the university has to offer. As part of her position, Niamh travels all over the world to promote language programmes at DCU. Her interests include travel, yoga and reading.
Barry is originally from Co. Down, Northern Ireland and holds a degree in French and Byzantine Studies from Queen’s University, Belfast, as well as a degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy. He has over 20 years teaching experience and has worked in Japan, France and the US. Barry has been teaching in Ireland for 13 years and held the position of TEFL course director at a previous school. He has extensive experience in exam classes and specialist programmes. In his free time he enjoys cycling and music.
Dimitra’s role is to assist students by providing information on the programmes offered and on admission procedures. She manages the efficient administrative and financial processing of all direct and agent applications. She is an Arts graduate from the University of Aberdeen, holds an Advanced Diploma in TESOL and an MLitt in History of Design from the University of Glasgow. She has taught English extensively, has been a Cambridge ESOL examiner and has worked as a postgraduate researcher on the history of education. Outside work, she likes reading and going to the theatre and cinema.
Radhika is the Director of Studies – Junior Programmes and has over 25 years of experience in designing, managing and teaching ESL, EFL, EAP, and teacher training courses in Malaysia, Dubai, and Ireland. She has a B.Ed TESL (University of Exeter), an M.ED in Professional Development (Deakin University, Australia) and a PG Cert in Mentoring and Coaching (University of Nottingham). Radhika enjoys dancing and spending time with her family in her free time.
